NSW: Carr defends new police powers
New South Wales Premier BOB CARR says he's confident police won't abuse tough new powers
given to them to crack down on crime.
But Mr CARR admits it would have been impossible to give the powers to police in the bad
old days before the Wood Royal Commission uncovered institutionalised corruption in the force.
Laws giving police the power to stop motorists and demand identification come into effect …
