Vic: Glass fear forces Leggo s to recalls pasta sauce

MELBOURNE, Dec 4 AAP - The Leggo's food company is recalling its 350 gram stir-through
pasta sauces because of a possibility of glass fragments in the jars.

The recall, likely to cover hundreds of thousands of jars, involves all five varieties
of its 350 gram pasta sauces carrying use-by dates up to and including November, 2001.

Leggo's executive general manager, Simplot retail division Chris Dunn today told AAP
the company had received 11 complaints over glass fragments in the product over the past
three months.

He described the figure as "not that many", but said any glass in the product "is something
we take very seriously".

He said one consumer took their pasta sauce to the Western Australian health department,
which confirmed the presence of glass.

Nonetheless, Leggo's has described the likelihood of glass in the jars during processing
and packaging as "very slight".

Mr Dunn said it was difficult to put a figure on how many of the jars were in use,
with many still in warehouses and on shop shelves.

"I think it is in the hundreds of thousands," he said.

Customers should return the sauce to the place of purchase for a full refund.

New stock is expected to be available after Christmas.
